Volunteer Commitee
Since the Barracudas are a volunteer, not-for-profit, parent-run organization, we cannot operate without parental involvement, which is vital to the success of the team. Each family must work a specified number of sessions through the season at Sopris Barracudas Swim Meets.  In addition, each family will be required to sign up to help with one of the following committees or make a $250 donation in lieu of their time.  Depending on the needs of the team, this list could change.  The 2010-2011 committees are:

Meet Support

Meet support is helping during a swim meet.  Our team hosts meets to give our swimmers the opportunity to swim close to home.  Each family must work a minimum of one session per meet at meets hosted by the SBST and at the Western Slope League Championship Meets. One session is a set of swim events as defined in the meet information packet. One session usually averages about 4 hours. It can take over 850 man-hours to put on a swim meet, and swim meets are a major source of revenue for swim teams. SBST-sponsored swim meets provide additional income needed for general operating expenses that provides our swimmers with a high level of professional coaching and keeps monthly dues as affordable as possible.

What kinds of jobs are there?
Programs, hospitality, lane timer, backup timer, and runner are all good jobs for a first-time swim parent. Runner can be done by a child 10 years of age or older. Lane timers must be 12 years or older.  Clerk of course and awards are good jobs to learn once you have worked at a meet and understand how the meet operates.  Head timer, tim
ing console, meet computer and announcing require more training (usually several sessions). There are computer and timing console trainee slots available at every meet.  See meet support job descriptions for more details.

How do I sign up?
When the meet support schedule is available, it will be posted on the team board at the pool and an email will be sent out to all active Sopris families.  At this point, you may sign up for a meet support position for that particular meet or you can let the meet director assign you a position.   Volunteer timers are also needed at all swim meets.  Families who volunteer at “away” meets will be provided refreshments throughout the session.  Timing at an away meet does not count toward Sopris Barracudas meet support requirements.
